Editorial platform visualising the foundations of clean energy

The Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University partnered with Applied Works to create the Critical Materials Monitor, an editorial platform designed to improve the understanding of critical mineral supply chains essential for the global shift to cleaner energy. The user experience combines rich editorial content and data visualisations, providing insights into minerals, technologies and global trade.

The platform we created bridges the information gap between critical minerals, clean energy technologies and trade dynamics

Drawing on multiple data sources and expert insights from Columbia University, we crafted interconnected narratives to support deeper understanding

Interactive visualisations, including Voronoi diagrams and trade flow charts, reveal mineral production, reserves and trade patterns

An API and database allow users to filter Comtrade’s vast dataset to explore and assess mineral dependencies driving the energy transition

Applied Works turned our vision into an effective, user-friendly tool, bringing kindness, and a rare mix of full-stack expertise to the project
