Digital reporting for a sustainable economy Al Gore co-founded Generation Investment Management to advance a sustainable economy. We worked with Generation on a new editorial strategy for their annual Sustainability Trends Report, to streamline production, improve the online reading experience and enrich the narrative through hundreds of interactive charts. Since 2020, our ongoing collaboration has resulted in a tenfold increase in readership. We established a flexible workflow process to enable collaboration between the content and design teams right up to the launch date. The design and navigation of the report is built around the interconnected chapters, and a ‘spotlight feature’ that keeps the user’s place within the report, to assist exploration of related content. We chose a font legible at small sizes for chart labels, while working at larger sizes and in heavier weights. TT Interphases by Type Type ticked all the boxes. The report features over 200 charts. Integrating Applied Charts allowed Generation to easily author and publish charts during development until just before launch. An integrated feature allows users to share or download any of the hundreds of individual charts or editorial content across different social media platforms. Applied Charts allowed us to author hundreds of charts, easily and autonomously, with content added right up to the wire as new evidence emerged.
